Red Sandstone
»
Red Sandstone is a classic sedimentary rock formed due to the cementing
together of the sand sized grains resulting into a solid form. Calcium carbonate, silica
and iron combine with the sand grains and grow in the form of crystals around
sand grains. Slowly these will be transformed into a solid form naturally.
The hardness of Red Sandstone depends on the cementing material, which is
either siliceous or ferruginous. Rajasthan is the largest producer of the
Red Sandstone in India. Various uses of the red sandstone include
roofing, flooring, paving, paneling, beams, pillars, arches, doors &
window sills, wall facing, fence posts, mile stones etc.
